Basic tagging 101

Sigh. I hate this part. It feels like making a resume for each art piece. This art piece is ‘list of positive attributes that might encourage a click’ You want this art piece. It has all these job requirements. It is digital, it is an illustration, it has humor, or ‘funny’ if that’s the kind of digital artpiece you want working for you.

Anyway: Good description article, leaves out a little but for 101 it’s great:

  1. Think about what you would type in if you were trying to find this kind of image.
  2. What’s in it. What the subject is. What makes it different from a picture of a tree. Or a human if it’s a tree. What kind of mood. Is it a mystical tree? A magical tree? An ugly tree? A gnome house? A giant redwood, a scrappy 3000 year old oak? If smeone was trying to find a picture of a magical scrappy oak tree what would they search for.
  3. Mood is one I don’t think about a lot, but definitely search for.
  4. Locations if they’re relevant
  5. Probably don’t tag too much with similar genre.
  6. Annddd ‘what’s trending’ For way in advance scheduling, you probably want to go fo seasonal trends, or movies that will be released in the future so you can time it to post around the time it’s trending.

And, more importantly, run tests. See what works. If you have all the things in one place to look at, pay attention to what changes and what gets you the most for the least amount of time spent doing it.
