--Uses code but for most of the major platforms you don’t have to put it in or even open that shit up, you just sign up, you get some random number, and there’s a place to plug it in.

Session:
30 minutes. Doesn’t track after inactivity, new one if reloads. Tracks from where, what system, what computer, location, so on.

For the most part, it looks like all you need, and i wouldn’t even necessarily recommend engaging with google analytics for this project, is the raw views that come with just attaching the tracking id. The rest is useful if you want to pursue some job that has a better chance of freedom, but for setting up and running just a side art thing, the information you get from plugging it in is more than enough.

Overview has most of it:
You can see if you are increasing by what your doing in a handy graph. At the bottom of it is a link to audience--there you can find the bounce rate, which tells you if your landing page is solid and or your product is compelling.

Yeah I totally want to see if my bounce rate goes down if you put a profile pic up where you look cute. Heh. What’s the bet that bounce rate goes down: I got...a dime I found cleaning the other day. I’d bet that.

Other one for when you have more than one set up is attribution, which shows you what sites are getting you anythiing to your selling point.

For us that’s the deviantart commission page. Heh.

For what we’re doing, that’s pretty much all you need. You can see what kind of traffic to actual pages, and it doesn’t track the tumblr shares, the pinterest views, or your tweeter that we’ve seen, so it’s actually not that useful.
